I figured I should write something of substance since my last blog was on 29 Jul...so to all my readers, please accept my sincerest apologizes for the delay.
While I don't want to take attention away from the opening ceremonies of the Olympics I encourage everyone to follow closely the volatile situation in Georgia (not the state, the country). As we speak, (assuming you are reading this the same day I posted it) Russia and Georgia are on the brink of full scale war over a section of Georgia called South Ossetia. Georgia is apparently attempting to control separatists in S. Ossetia who happen to be friendly with Moscow. Russia claims to be defending their citizens (some separatists have dual citizenship with Russia) while Georgia says Russia is infringing on their sovereignty. Google the story for more background (that was not a plug for google) What makes this situation interesting is we have Georgian troops here in Iraq. We also currently have U.S. troops in Georgia training Georgian troops, so as expected Georgia has already requested the U.S. get involved immediately. Now a background, Russia and the U.S. are allies but not exactly close friends to say the least, so the fact that Georgian troops are in Iraq and Russia/U.S. relations are shaky makes for a dynamic situation. I will be very curious to see how this plays out and what role the U.S. will play in this. This could cool down or have the potential to create WWIII. Russia and Georgia govt officials are exchanging strong words which if followed up on could cause serious international conflict. As for life here nothing has really changed...I'm not much of a movie guy but when you can buy movies for $2 and you have a day with little to do you suddenly find yourself watching movies. And I must say there are ALOT of dumb ones out there, ALOT! We have been doing some good work lately which has caught the eye of high level officials, cant screw up now we're under the microscope.
On a lighter note, my stomach has been upset lately (not at me we are close friends but some food I ate) so I have been eating light meals the last couple days...I know when I say light for many that's two meals. Anyways, I went to get a sandwich and asked for mayo...the sandwich artist behind the counter then applied one strip of mayo. I said "you could put a little more..." he proceeded to hose my sandwich down with mayo. I looked at him like "I just said a little more not empty the bottle on it...", it was as if I was eating a Sloppy Joe's sandwich (this is not a plug for Sloppy Joe's). I thought to myself, thank God you don't cut hair...I mean imagine you're sitting in the chair and say "you can take a little more off the top..."

The Georgia situation caught my eye. I did not know we had troops there though. Yikes. Hope your stomach improves!
Not sure what we can really do (or how wise it would be to do it) considering the proximity of the two countries involved and the distance of ours from Georgia. Course I want whatever's in the U.S. best interest, but Im not sure getting involved in something that Russia takes so seriously right in there own backyard is a particularly smart idea. In fact, what the hell could the U.S. really do if China attacked Taiwan? Does that treaty or whatever it is we have with them make any sense for us? Anyway, thats a digression. Get your ass out of Iraq ASAP Iraqistan--and make it in one piece!
This article says a lot... now if its been 'media-ized' or not... is another story. Looks like Putin wants to play hardball with US. (yes, as in us and U.S.) clever... i know.

I can hear Ray Charles now...
Georgia, Georgia, the whole day through
Just an old sweet song
Keeps Georgia on my mind
Talkin' 'bout Georgia
I'm in Georgia
A song of you
Comes as sweet and clear as moonlight through the pines
Other arms reach out to me
Other eyes smile tenderly
Still in peaceful dreams I see
The road leads back to you
Georgia, sweet Georgia, no peace I find
Just an old sweet song
Keeps Georgia on my mind
Other arms reach out to me
Other eyes smile tenderly
Still in peaceful dreams I see
The road leads back
It always leads back to you
I'm in Georgia, Georgia, sweet Georgia
No peace, no peace I find
Just this old, sweet song
Keeps Georgia forever on my mind
Just an old sweet, sweet song
Keeps Georgia forever on my mind
Maybe he knew... way back then...
Georgia is also ranked #1 in the college poll for 2008! Hope they can still field a football team.
Wow! I had no idea. I guess that is the media though only letting you know what they want.
